Have you made some damaging hair decisions in the past (or of late) that you’re paying for?
Maybe it’s the medications you took by force for a debilitating illness and hair loss is a side effect; perhaps it’s the medical illness itself that’s causing your hair’s unfortunate undoing.
Or, probably you’ve been too harsh on your mane, and is experiencing what so many individuals struggle with, trichorrhexis nodosa or traumatic alopecia.
The causes of hair loss and baldness vary and could even be heredity. If you’ve explored quite a bit of hair treatment therapies but can’t seem to catch a break, maybe looking at your lifestyle and hair care regimen might turn the tides in your favor.
Although this article is largely about using essential oils for hair growth recipes, additional information provided will make your journey to healthy scalp and hair worthwhile.
A Quick Peek at Your Lifestyle and Hair Care Routine
Are you someone who can’t seem to leave your hair alone? Must you comb your hair some 8 – 10 times in any given day? This could be a bit of a problem. It’s important to allow your hair room to breathe, and the less trauma it receives, the less likely it’ll break and shed.
Drinking water and getting adequate exercise is also important. An internal cleanse or change is necessary, too. The essential oils for hair growth recipes I mention below will treat the area when applied topically, but I suggest you start taking those supplements, especially if you realize your hair has been woefully damaged for years from relaxers, moisturizers, heat treatments, braids, stress, and neglect.
Take supplements specifically for hair, skin, and nails. Nature’s Truth Ultra Hair, Skin, & Nails plus Biotin is what I take 3 times per day, but you don’t have to subscribe to my preference. If you know another brand that’ll give tremendous results, go right ahead.
Along with the above supplement mentioned, I drink 15 ml of liquid collagen daily, which also supports hair, skin, and nails. Can you tell? I’m on a quest to look and feel my best in 2020, and that means spending a bit of cash to improve my health. Your health is your wealth, right? The brand of liquid collagen I use is also from Nature’s Truth. I’m head over heels for this brand.
Hair that has sustained trauma for years will take a considerable amount of time to regrow, so while you change up your lifestyle a bit, adding a cup of patience to the table will help the process, and prevent frustration, especially if your tolerance level is low and you aren’t willing to ride the waves.
Now to the elephant in the room, let’s talk about the essential oils for hair growth recipe that I’ve held dear to my bosom, along with two others backed by research.
Essential Oils for Hair Growth Recipes
Obviously, since this hair growth recipe is about essential oils, you’ll need a few plant-based extracts.
I found out the beauty of essential oils through research. I’ve been using oils at home for various conditions but hadn’t thought about using them to stimulate growth and rekindle life to my poor, stressed scalp. Sure, I did use a few drops in my shampoos and conditioners, but that was purely for the aroma.
A clinical study pitching rosemary oil against minoxidil shows that the oil’s efficacy was more profound. In fact, the group using minoxidil showed more itching on the scalp. Since rosemary oil is derived from the plant/herb, you resist exposing your scalp to potentially harmful synthetic chemicals.
This article isn’t about the science of it all, so ensure to do your own research to make a well-thought-out decision, one that’s especially beneficial for your mane and overall wellbeing. After all, it’s your hair and health that’s involved.
Note: If you’re allergic to rosemary herb, it’s best to avoid the essential oil.
Cedarwood oil was another addition to the essential oils for hair growth recipe that I made. Like rosemary, cedarwood is among some of the oils tested for hair growth. It was also the only other pure essential oil I had on hand; go figure.
Now that I’ve highlighted the essential oils used in the hair growth recipe I personally made, let’s get to the heart of it to see what else was used in the ingredients.
Note: Along with the recipe I personally made and used, 2 others are listed. It’s important to mention that I’ve not personally used these recipes, but clinical trials done using them show their efficacy. I adjusted my recipe based on what I had on hand, and what was easy to secure.
I wanted to make the recipe quickly, and if I had to order the other ingredients online as listed in the clinical trial, I’d have to wait a few weeks. That was not going to happen!
Essential Oils for Hair Growth Recipes # 1: Rosemary & Cedarwood Hair Growth Blend (Personally Used)
Just in case you skipped straight to the recipe without reading the entire article, I’ve used this hair growth recipe personally and can vouch for its safety and efficacy.
As also previously mentioned, if you’re allergic to rosemary (or cedarwood), do not use the essential oils. You may want to eliminate other ingredients that may cause an unfavorable reaction.
Here are the ingredients needed for this hair growth recipe:
- 10 drops of rosemary oil
- 10 drops of cedarwood oil
- 30 ml of coconut oil
- 30 ml of grapeseed oil
- 30 ml of castor oil
Add your coconut, grapeseed, and castor oils in a glass container. I had one lying around so I just used that.
Follow-up with your drops of essential oils and stir to combine everything together.
I stored the container with my essential oils for hair growth recipe in the refrigerator. You don’t have to put yours to refrigerate, but since this recipe is pretty oil-based and could make a mess, I refrigerated mine.
Coconut oil tends to ‘sleep’ or move from a liquid to a solid-state, the entire recipe hardened. Awesome! It was easy to apply to the bald areas.
I used this blend twice each day to massage my bald and thinning spots. I also added a steam cap to warm things up a bit, since essential oils are absorbed more quickly through the skin when heat or warmth is applied.
Essential Oils for Hair Growth Recipes #2: Rosemary & Lavender Blend with Cedarwood and Thyme
As noted before, I’ve personally never used this recipe, but a clinical trial conducted using 86 participants concluded that this hair growth recipe could be used to treat alopecia areata.
I’ve merely modified this recipe by measuring how much of each oil you should use.
Here are the ingredients needed for this hair growth recipe:
- 5 drops of thyme oil
- 10 drops of rosemary oil
- 10 drops of lavender oil
- 5 drops of cedarwood oil
- 45 ml of jojoba oil
- 45 ml of grapeseed oil
Combine your jojoba and grapeseed oils together in a glass container. Follow-up by adding your essential oils.
Stir to combine. Set aside until ready to use. A daily scalp massage is good, but you can choose to use twice a day – in the mornings and at nights.
Essential Oils for Hair Growth Recipes #3: Rosemary & Cedarwood Blend with Cypress and Geranium
For this hair growth recipe, you’ll need:
- 4 drops of cedarwood oil
- 4 drops of rosemary oil
- 3 drops of Cypress oil
- 3 drops of geranium oil
- 30 ml of jojoba oil
- 30 ml of coconut oil
For this hair growth recipe, combine your jojoba and coconut oils in a glass container. Add your essential oils and stir to combine thoroughly.
Massage this mixture onto the scalp and hair once every day.
Essential Oils for Hair Growth Recipes, Conclusion
As with any regimen or treatment, consistency is key. Don’t expect to fall behind in application, but still expect tremendous results. You have to use your hair growth serum every single day. Do not skip your supplements as well.
To conclude this article, I’d like to mention that, along with recipe # 1, I’m also using ORS Fertilizing Temple Balm to apply twice daily. This was recommended by a popular YouTuber and so I decided to test the waters.
On another note, while you enjoy using your ‘essential oils for hair growth recipe, give your hair a break and allow it to breathe. You can’t be applying treatment while still in the habit of damaging your scalp with tightly twisted braids, hair dyeing, and the whole shebang. It doesn’t work like that.
